Southface - 25 Days of Giving: Day 8

Today's organization was brought to my attention by one of the folks that works with the group. With everything going on in Cophenhagen this week, it seemed appropriate to talk about them today:

Day 8's organization is: Southface (

For over 30 years, Southface has worked to promote sustainable homes, workplaces and communities through education, research, advocacy and technical assistance.

We aren't talking about a huge corporate group that is looking to get rich off of the "green" movement. Personally, when I think about "green" it's a bit annoying... I like the Dirty Jobs approach "get Brown to get Green".

I'm also a firm believer in conservation. Look, I'm a parent, I want my children to be able to play outside without fear of pollution related asthma... I want them to have rivers to play in and forests to hike through.

So here's to the folks that are helping us to understand how we can do our part to use less.

Volunteer and giving opportunities available:

From their website:
"Since 1978, Southface has helped people save energy and water and conserve natural resources. Driven by our region's growing environmental challenges, we have successfully fostered unique partnerships and developed programs that will enable anyone to understand and adopt responsible practices for environmental living.

Southface’s programs and services are based on sound science and are inclusive of all members of our community. These programs and services reached about 40,000 people last year, and our media impressions exceeded 200 million. Southface values our members, government and industry partners and other colleagues in the nonprofit sector for the wisdom they bring to our work and their commitment to sustainable development."
